Mum fumes as husband leaves her with kids to watch Euros – and doesn’t return until 5am

A mum has slammed her husband after he left her with the kids to go and watch the Euros – then returned at 5am the next morning.

Sharing her story anonymously, the pregnant woman said that her partner went out for a “couple” of drinks to watch the game with some pals.

She went to bed at 10 and awoke later that night when he arrived home expecting it to be about half 11 when the pubs shut, not half five when he stumbled in.

But what upset her was that he was meant to be looking after their one-year-old whilst she goes out for lunch – something she hasn’t done in ages she claims – and he was “totally dead to the world,” which meant she couldn’t go.

Sharing her story on Mumsnet, she wrote: “My partner said he was going for a ‘couple’ last night. I am four months pregnant and we have a one-year-old. I went to bed at about 10 and heard him come in. when I looked at the time, expecting it to be about half 11 as the pubs round here are still shutting earlier than usual it was half five!

“What has p****d me off about this is, one year old has woken up at seven, we went down about half seven and of course, he is totally dead to the world. He has slept in our spare room downstairs which is something I suppose.

“He was meant to be looking after the one year old for me whilst I go out for lunch today.”

But because he’s out for the count she wasn’t able to go.

The woman explained that he’s been out nearly every weekend for the last month, where he celebrated his friend’s birthday and the bank holiday – although on these occasions he came home at around one in the morning.

She said: “He was out all day for the game last Sunday too, was out pretty much the whole of the bank holiday and last Saturday too.

“I’m getting fed up now, I’m not going to be able to leave the one-year-old with him, it is like he is unconscious and I’m meant to be going at 11.”

She claims it wouldn’t have been an issue “pre-kids” but now “he needs to grow up a bit.”

Although she’s not against him having fun, “rocking in at that time when you are supposed to be looking after your child the next day is taking the p***.”

“I’m just upset because it’s the first time I will have been somewhere in ages, [he’s] ruined my day too now and he will inevitably be feeling very sorry for himself,” the mum concluded her post.

After sharing her story online, Mumsnet users were quick to criticise her husband for being “inconsiderate.”

One person said: “Very, very selfish. Nothing wrong with him having a good night but not when it impacts the whole family. Is there no one else who can have the baby for you so you can still go? I wouldn’t leave my child with him but I would absolutely make him pay for it.”

Another commented: “Firstly it was inconsiderate to stay so late without letting you know but secondly he’s now ruining your plans for the day.”

A third person said: “Of course you can go out. It’s only 7:45 he’ll be fine by 11 surely. It’s not fun looking after a one-year-old with a hangover but he’ll manage.”

Whilst others suggested ‘putting a really loud alarm next to his head’ to force him to get up.
